font size

French President Jacques Chirac is to pay an official visit to Libya Wednesday before attending the 10th summit of French speaking countries in Ouagadougou, Chirac's spokesman Jerome Bonnafont said on Tuesday.

It is the first visit by a French president to Libya since its independence in 1951, the spokesman said.

The visit aims at opening a new chapter in ties with the North-African country, he said.
