A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Thursday described the just-concluded international conference on the Iraq issue as "a successful meeting" and called the international community to carry out the consensus reached at the meeting.
Positive achievements had been made at the meeting when parties concerned reached a consensus on promoting the political process, helping restore stability and strengthening the leading role of the United Nations in Iraq's reconstruction, said spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue at a regular press conference.
This demonstrated the support of the international community for peace in Iraq, she added.
Representatives from more than 20 countries and organizations, including Iraq and its neighbors, the Group of Eight, China, the United Nations and the European Union, participated in the international conference hosted by Egypt in Sham El-Sheik on Tuesday.
Wang Guangya, China's permanent representative to the United Nations, attended the conference as special envoy of the Chinese government, and played a "constructive role" for the success of the meeting, Zhang noted.
China is always active in participating in Iraq's reconstruction and is implementing its commitment to this effect, Zhang said, adding China will provide 1 million US dollars worth of material aid to support Iraq's general election, and help it train diplomats and personnel in economic management and energy development.
China is looking forward to a peaceful, stable and democratic Iraq to return to the international community and is willing to work with all parties to properly settle the Iraq issue, she said.
