An official with the Economic Responsibility Audit Department of the National Audit Office (CNAO) said that starting from next year economic responsibility audit would extend its realm from the heads of city and county level to a higher level to include leaders at the prefecture and department level. As learned relevant documents have been drawn up and would be released to the local governments within this year.

Wang Daocheng, member of the Party Committee and head of the Discipline Inspecting Group of the CNAO, stressed at the National Meeting of Economic Responsibility Audit Work that the nationwide economic responsibility audit work should put emphasis on the auditing of the heads of state-owned enterprises and Party and administrative leaders above county level. The auditing realm would extend to the prefecture and department level next year and experiment would be expanded for leaders at the provincial level. Both the occasions and conditions have matured. In April this year it was proposed at the 3rd Joint Auditing Work Meeting of five ministries of the central government that the realm of economic responsibility audit of Party and administrative leaders would be extended to the prefecture and department level. Having been approved by the Central Committee of the CPC it would be implemented from the year 2005.

Starting from next year the realm of economic responsibility audit would be extended to leaders at the prefecture and department level.

At present economic responsibility auditing of Party and administrative leaders below the county level has been unfolded comprehensively. According to statistics auditing experiments have been conducted in all 30 provinces (regions and cities).
