font size

Police have launched a concerted campaign to crack down on crime in Luohu District in Shenzhen to improve public order before the Chinese New Year.

Four men were detained for possessing a 300-gram bag of ketamine powder, a loaded pistol and a fake police uniform during a police road check near the Far East Hotel in Shennan Road East on Wednesday.

Several other people were arrested for allegedly stealing road signs near the Yayuan flyover, while in the Liantang area, police seized seven suspects who were allegedly blackmailing the owner of a recreation center.

During the operations, Luohu policemen set up 69 check posts in major streets. By Wednesday, three vehicles and 253 motorbikes had been detained for using fake registration plates or being involved in crime.

Thousands of policemen were involved in Wednesday's action, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily said.
