font size

An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale shook Nabire town in Indonesia's easternmost province of Papua at 11:25 local time Friday (02:25 GMT), the official Antara news agency reported.

The epicenter of the tremor is located around 17 km from Nabire, some 3,500 km east of Jakarta, an official with the meteorology and geophysics agency was quoted as saying.

A building of state-own cellular phone operator Indosat and several churches collapsed in the quake, but there was no immediate report on casualty. Around eight hours earlier, another quake of 4.8 magnitude rocked the town.
