A United Nations Security Council delegation led by French UN Ambassador Jean-Marc de la Sabliere arrived in Uganda on Thursday for a two-day visit to the east African country, according to local press reports on Friday.
The UN delegation met Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Thursday evening at Entebbe International Airport, some 45 km south of Kampala after its arrival.
The delegation asked Museveni to help the UN and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) integrate the Congolese rebels into the national army and police.
Sabliere told press that the UN was happy with Museveni's efforts to pacify the region.
The French UN ambassador commended Museveni for declaring a ceasefire with the Lord's Resistance Army rebels to allow dialogue to commence.
The UN delegation arrived in Uganda after visiting Burundi. A communique issued after their visit to the central African country said Rwanda should work with DRC and the UN Mission in the DRC to "accelerate the repatriation of foreign armed groups and to explore the way forward with the DRC."
It warned Rwanda not to attack the DRC to flush out Hutu rebels based there, urging Rwanda to "refrain from actions that frustrate the UN and the Great Lakes region peace efforts."
The UN delegation will leave Uganda Friday. Earlier, the UN delegation has visited Rwanda, the DRC and Burundi in the Great Lakes region to underscore the importance of completing the peace process in the region.
