The Philippine government Friday received a donation of 50,000 US dollars from the Chinese government for the flood victims left by two tropical storms that hit the northern islands this week.

Acting Foreign Affairs Secretary Franklin M. Ebdalin, who received the donation from Chinese ambassador to the country Wu Hongbo, said that his government is most appreciative of this generous donation for the victims.

"The affected families will be most grateful for this assistance from the Chinese government and people," he said.

According to the government's estimation, typhoon Violeta has caused damage of 281.15 million pesos on crops, mostly rice and corn, while Unding caused damaged of some 131.7 million pesos on agriculture and fisheries and 65 million pesos on property.
