French soccer star Zinedine Zidane has stood behind Paris' efforts of bidding the 2012 Summer Olympics, the Paris bid committee said on November 26.

Zidane received the Paris 2012 candidature file at a ceremony in Madrid, Spain, where he plays for Real Madrid. He said the soccer World Cup in 1998, which France organized and won, showed that Paris can do an excellent job in staging an event that brings together athletes and spectators from every corner of the world, according to the bid committee statement.

The three-time FIFA World Footballer of the Year said he was deeply moved to receive Paris' candidature file.
