Chinese envoy wants return to roadmap
font size

Chinese Middle East envoy Wang Shijie has called for a return to the roadmap for peace, to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli issue. Wang briefed reporters on his return to Beijing, following a visit to the region.

He said the Israeli government and the Palestinian authority both say they want to get the peace process back on track, CCTV.com reported Monday.

In meetings this week with Israeli and Palestinian leaders, Wang repeated Beijing's wish to see the two sides living in peace and harmony.

Wang said the new Palestinian leaders told him, they would continue to work for a Palestinian State, following the death of President Arafat. Wang said the Palestinians are willing to meet their obligations under the Road Map peace plan. He added that the Israeli side was also willing to resume talks with the Palestinians.
