Chinese enterprises break recordsThe Federation of Chinese Enterprises and the Association of Chinese Entrepreneurs jointly released the 451 ground-breaking records set by 275 Chinese businesses with 400 of them new records. This is the 9th time that such lists have been made and declared so far. The list which records the most advanced economic, technical and management results in all walks of life in China represents the highest level and achievements of innovations by Chinese enterprises. It serves as a benchmark of the creativity of enterprises and gives incentives to innovation. The manned space flight by China Astranautic Science and Technology Corporation and Lenovo's supercomputer which is capable of calculating 4.183 trillion times per second are both honored as the two in the top 10 ground-breaking innovations. A prize has been given to 13 enterprises which have new records registered in the past five years in a row. Some of the records are historic in the world. It takes the Chinese the shortest time in the world to put the water turbine generators in the Three Gorges Project into operation in 2003. The Lupu Bridge running across the Huangpu River in Shanghai has the longest span in the world. The damming of the Yangtze River, a part of the Three Gorges Project, set three world records in terms of flux volume, depth of water and the capacity. The sales of the New Iron and Steel under the Ansteel doubled the used-to-be world record set by Nippon Steel. And Qingdao Port has made a new chapter of unloading. China Oil and Natural Gas Pipeline has refreshed the world record on wielding in a project in Sudan. 642 applications have been filed by 312 enterprises in 31 sectors from 29 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. China National Petroleum Corporation holds 51 records, more than any other of its peers. It is followed by China Offshore Oil with 26 records. Sino-pec gains the third place with 21 records. And the 4th Prospecting and Design Institute of the Ministry of Railway, China Aluminum, and Shenhua Group rank the 4th, 5th, and 6th with 18, 14 and 10 records respectively.
