Chinese, Laotian leaders hail bilateral ties

China is ready to make joint efforts with Laos to enhance relations between the two countries, said Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao Monday.

During a meeting with Laotian President Khamtay Siphandone, Wen said the two sides have increased political trust and economic cooperation, and have supported each other on regional and international issues, said a press release issued by the Chinese delegation.

"We feel satisfied with the development of the relationship (between China and Laos)," said Wen.

Wen added that the Chinese government attaches great importance to its ties with Laos, and adheres to the principle enshrined in the 2000 joint statement -- Developing a Long-term and All-round Relations of Good Neighborliness and Mutual Trust.

Khamtay spoke highly of the traditional friendship between Laos and China. He said China. as a friend of Laos, has assisted Laos in developing economy, eradicating poverty, and improving the living standard of the Laotians.

He said Laos is encouraged by Wen's official visit and his participation in the ASEAN meetings, and is thankful for China's assistance for holding the meetings.

Khamtay said Laos will implement the agreements signed during his current visit.

Wen is here for an official visit to Laos while attending the eighth summit between ASEAN and China, and between ASEAN and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea, as well as the sixth China, Japan and ROK summit.
