Woman with 2.5-kg cocaine arrested at HK Customs
font size

About 2.5 kgs of cocaine worth about 2 million HK dollars (256,000 US dollars) was seized on November 28 from a 33-year-old Filipino woman at the Hong Kong airport, said the Hong Kong Customs Monday.

The drug was in concealed compartments of a hand-carried travel bag she had on arrival from Rio de Janeiro via Paris.

She will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear in Tsuen Wan Magistracy Tuesday.

It is the first cocaine trafficking case detected by Customs at the airport since October last year when officers seized 1 kg from a Columbian man.

The maximum penalty for drug trafficking could be a fine of 5 million HK dollars (641,000 US dollars) and life imprisonment.
