China reports sharp rise in number of inbound tourists

According to statistics from the National Tourism Administration, from January to October, the number of inbound tourist has increased 20.34 percent as against same period last year to 89.7899 million, 11.09 percent higher than 2002. Of them 13.8404 million are foreigners, representing a rise of 52.66 percent as against the corresponding period last year. There are 400, 000 more foreign tourists than 2002. The tourism foreign exchange revenue amounts to US$ 19.55 bln, 1. 849 bln higher than that of 2003 and a 14.08 percent increase than 2002.

From January to October, the overnight inbound tourists in China reaches 34.3834 million, 28.98 percent and 12. 96 percent higher than corresponding period in 2003 and 2002 respectively. The number of overnight foreign tourists has increased 58.63 percent to 11.1641 million, 26.44 percent higher than 2002.
