The "China today forum", cosponsored by 22 research organs of ministries and commissions opens in Beijing on Nov 28. Jiang Zhenghua, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress addresses the opening ceremony on the theme "enhancing ruling capability and creating a harmonious society".

Former Director of the Research Office of the State Council, the executive president of the forum, Yuan Mu says the forum is meant to discuss the focal and difficult problems that are encountered during construction of the socialist market economy. The forum will absorb high-level research personnel and make in-depth research and discussion on the new situation, new problems, new subjects that have emerged in political, economic, cultural and social fields.

China is in a developing phase that is both important and sensitive. Many contradictions and problems are needed to be resolved. "Creating a harmonious society" is therefore of paramount importance, says Jaing Zhenghua.

The ruling capability of the CPC is confronted with a grave test of whether the party can hold opportunity of China's rise, and creating harmonious society is an important foothold for enhancing the ruling capability, says Wang Zhongming, head of the Research Office of the State Assets Management Commission.

The harmonious relation between human and nature, human and economy, human and society are the cores of creating harmonious society. The CPC should lay emphasis on strengthening construction of thoughts and institution. In the mean time, it should endeavor to combat terrorists, extremists, and separatists so as to realize the goal to maintain stability, push development, purify environment, improve living standards and create harmonious society.

The forum will be held on a monthly basis. Senior officials, renowned scholars and experts, entrepreneurs will be invited to attend the forum depending on subjects to be discussed.
