Spanish king and PM meet Chinese vice premier

Spanish King Juan Carlos I and Prime Minister Jose Zapatero held talks with visiting Chinese Vice Premier Zeng Peiyan respectively on Monday in Madrid. Both parties spoke highly of the rapid development of the bilateral relations in recent years, and pledged further cooperation.

During the meeting, King Carlos said he was happy to see the Spanish-Chinese relations developing rapidly, and expressed his wish that the two countries could further enhance a mutual understanding and cooperation in more areas.

He congratulated Chinese President Hu Jintao's successful visit to Latin America recently, saying that Spain would help push forward the relations between China and Latin American countries.

Zapatero also expressed willingness to further strengthen the Spanish-Chinese ties. At present, China is gaining greater influence in the world both politically and economically, the Spanish government cherishes its relations with China, and would like to reinforce mutual friendship and cooperation in every area in the future, he said.

He also reiterated Spain's commitment of one China policy.

Premier Zeng Peiyan thanked Spain's one China policy. He mentioned that the friendly cooperation between the two countries has been increasingly reinforced and strengthened in recent years, as high-level exchanges become more frequent, mutual political trust increases, economic and financial cooperation produces more fruits, and exchanges of culture, tourism, education, science and technology, sports prosper.

The two countries share same or similar views on many important international issues, and we cooperate satisfactorily in many international organizations like the U.N., Zeng said.

Zeng said the two countries should grasp this favorable time to explore more areas for cooperation. The two governments should take effective measures to expand mutual trade and commerce, encourage medium-size and small enterprises to join hands to develop, he suggested.China welcomes more Spanish enterprises to invest and do business in China, Zeng said, and hope Spain create a more favorable environment for Chinese enterprises.

Zeng arrived in Spain last Saturday for a four-day official visit at the invitation of the Spanish government.
