Chinese President Hu Jintao on Wednesday sent a message of condolences to his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono over the plane crash in the Indonesian town of Solo.

In the message, Hu extended his condolences to the victims of the crash, and expressed his sympathy to families of the victims.

Airport authorities in Solo confirmed Wednesday that at least 31 passengers were killed after a passenger jet skidded off a slippery runway Tuesday evening.

A total of 163 people, including eight crews and 10 babies, were aboard the US-made MD-82 plane when the accident took place.
