China, Ecuador vow to further military ties
font size

Both China and Ecuador expressed the hope to increase military cooperation Thursday.

While meeting with Victor Rosero, Ecuador's chief of the joint command of the armed forces, Xu Caihou, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, said that Sino-Ecuadorian relations have progressed smoothly since the two countries forged diplomatic ties almost 25 years ago.

The two countries have increased exchange of visits and kept close cooperation on many major international issues, Xu said.

"In recent years, the army-to-army relations have also showed a good momentum of development," Xu said. "China holds an active attitude toward Sino-Ecuadorian military exchanges and cooperation and would like to make joint efforts to further the military ties."

Xu briefed Rosero on China's economic development and military reform with Chinese characteristics.

Xu also appreciated Ecuador's support to China on the Taiwan issue.

Ecuador can learn from China's experience on economic development and military reform and is willing to substantiate its cooperation with China in defense and other fields, he said.

Rosero also reaffirmed Ecuadorian government's one-China stance.

Rosero started his China visit Tuesday as guest of Liang Guanglie, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
