Chinese state councilor meets British Deputy PMChinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met with the visiting British Deputy Prime Minister and First Secretary of State John Prescott Wednesday. Tang said Sino-British relationship has scored new progress recently and the two sides are working to earnestly implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two nations. "We have witnessed important progress in all fields of cooperation," he acknowledged. The state councilor told the British deputy prime minister he hoped that China and Britain will enhance cooperation and exchanges so as to make even greater progress in the bilateral relations. Prescott said the British government attached importance to its ties with China and would like to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to advance the practical cooperation between the two countries in all fields. Prescott arrived in Beijing Tuesday evening for a five-day official visit as guest of Chinese Vice Premier Huang Ju. This is Prescott's seventh visit to China.
