China will stick to socialist road: President Hu

Chinese President Hu Jintao said Thursday that China would stick to socialism with Chinese characteristics as it has proven to suit China.

"Facts have proven that it is a correct road leading China to prosperity and brings happy lives to the Chinese people," Hu, also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said at a group study session of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

Hu said for a country to realize economic and social progress and lasting peace and stability, it must find a road that suits both its own conditions and the times. Hu said that China's experience in reform and opening up, its historical development and the world situation were all considered.

"Socialism with Chinese characteristics is the logical and correct choice for China to further realize national rejuvenation, prosperity of the country and happy lives for the people," he said.

He also said that "socialism is in a constant development process." Experience should be summarized and applied to advance socialism and "run every undertaking of us well."

"As practices of socialism with Chinese characteristics keeps growing, so will our understanding of the laws of socialist construction," said Hu. "We should apply these laws creatively to guide the study and solving major problems in China's reform, opening up and modernization, make our thoughts and acts better conform with actual realities, conditions of the state, requirements of the times and the aspirations and interests of the people."

He called on adhering to the scientific viewpoint of development, which emphasizes putting people first and an all-round, coordinated and sustainable development, in boosting socialist causes.
