China expects the upcoming Seventh China-EU Leaders' Meeting to achieve positive results, said Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Yesui Friday.
"It is an important meeting and the first meeting after the European Union elected new leadership," Zhang said. "We look forward and believe this meeting will achieve positive results."
Since the Sixth China-EU Meeting was held in October in Beijing last year, the China-EU strategic partnership has made positive and important progress. Both sides enhanced mutual political trust,communication on major international and regional issues and cooperation in fields of economy, culture, education, science and technology and environmental protection, said Zhang.
From January to October this year, the bilateral trade volume reached 142.1 billion US dollars, up 34.4 percent over the same period last year. EU has become the biggest trade partner of China and China has become the second biggest trade partner of EU, according to Zhang.
This year, many cultural exchange activities were held in China and European countries and a great number of Chinese tourists traveled to Europe. According to incomplete figures, currently 150,000 Chinese students are studying in Europe, said Zhang.
Both sides strengthened dialogues and consultations on major international and regional issues such as anti-terrorism, ending nuclear proliferation, cracking down on transnational organized crimes and violence in the Middle East.
"China is satisfied with the positive results in the bilateral relations achieved in the past year," Zhang said.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will visit the Netherlands from Dec.7 to 9, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue announced Thursday.
The premier will attend the Seventh China-EU Leaders' Meeting in the Hague, together with Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende of the Netherlands, which currently holds the rotating European Union (EU) presidency, European Commission (EC) President Jose Manuel Barroso, and Javier Solana, secretary general of the Council of the European Union (EU) and representative for the EU Common Foreign and Security Policy.
During his stay, Wen will also pay an official visit to the Netherlands as guest of Dutch Prime Minister Balkenende.
