Russia's Duma condemns some European interference in Ukraine
font size

Russia's State Duma, the lower house of parliament, on Friday approved a resolution condemning as "destructive" some European organizations' interference in the political deadlock in Ukraine, the Interfax news agency reported.

The European Union, the European Parliament and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's "one-sided approach" provoke the radical groups in Ukraine to dangerous actions, "which may lead to massive disturbances, chaos and a split," the Duma said in a statement.

"All this will have a negative impact not only on Ukraine, but also on Russia and the world community as a whole," said the statement which was passed in a vote of 415 in favor.

The Duma called to solve the current political crisis sparked by the Nov. 21 presidential runoff by exclusive peaceful means.

"If the situation gets out of control," the blame will rest on the "external forces which are exerting destructive influence on the events," the statement stressed.

Ukraine's has been locked in a political crisis since the Nov. 21 presidential runoff, in which Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich won. But the opposition rejected the result.
