The 40th AMF Bowling World Cup opened on December 5 in the evening in Singapore with a participation of about 200 players from 96 countries and regions.
Afghanistan, Libya, Nigeria, Slovakia and Tajikistan are among the newcomers to this year's event, which set a new mark for number of countries and regions presented in any given year.
The players will show their skills in three stages of competitions, namely the qualifying round, the intermediate round and the single-elimination head-to head matches.
Kerrie Ryan-Ciach of Canada, women's champion of last year's World Cup, will play to defend his championship in the city state.
It is the second time for Singapore to host the AMF Bowling World Cup in 31 years.
