Musharraf: bin Laden search futile so far
font size

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf says the search for Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden has gone completely cold, with no recent intelligence indicating where he and his top lieutenants are hiding.

Musharraf told the Washington Post that Bin Laden is still at large because of an insufficient US military presence near the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The Pakistani president says the newly established Afghan forces are not capable of cooperating effectively with Pakistani troops to flush out terrorists in the region.

Musharraf also denies news reports that his troops were pulling out of south Waziristan, a tense tribal area along the mountainous border that was considered a possible hiding place for bin Laden.
