font size

Japan will extend 1.06 million US dollars in emergency assistance to the Palestinian presidential election next year, the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.

At the request of Palestinian Central Election Committee, the Japanese government will provide about 690,000 dollars for the committee's voter education activities, and about 370,000 dollars to support UN liaison and assistance activities of the electoral observers through the Program of Assistance to the Palestinian People of the United Nations Development Program, it said.

The Palestinians are slated to hold a presidential election on Jan. 9, 2005.
