China will work with Germany to further promote a bilateral strategic partnership, said Chinese President Hu Jintao Tuesday afternoon at a meeting with visiting German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.

Hu said the two sides should strengthen political mutual trust and strategic cooperation, improve dialogues at various levels and consultation mechanism. They should enhance bilateral economic, trade and technological cooperation, and promote cooperation in culture, education and personnel exchanges.

Hu pointed to the mature Sino-German strategic partnership and expressed his appreciation for German government's attention to its relations with China, the one-China policy and positive efforts for the development of overall strategic partnership between China and the European Union.

China welcomes German businesses to participate in the development of western areas and the revitalization of the old industrial bases in the northeast of China.

Schroeder, who is here on a three-day working visit as guest of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, voiced Germany's satisfaction with the development of bilateral ties.

He said the German government will continue to abide by a one-China policy and will not do anything that does not conform to the one-China policy.

The German side will work with China to further their political mutual trust and strategic partnership, noted Schroeder. The German side will continue to make efforts to promote EU-China relations.

He also said Germany will take an active part in the revitalization of China's old industrial bases.
