Germany, China share dynamic relations in all fields, says Chancellor

Visiting German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said Tuesday in Beijing that Germany and China have established dynamic relations in all fields and the two sides agree that those ties should be expanded continuously.

Schroeder made the remark when addressing a German-Chinese economic seminar hosted by the China Federation of Industrial Economics.

He said China has become Germany's most important trading partner in Asia, and Germany ranks as China's most important trading partner in European Union (EU). The two countries maintained an annual trade growth with double-digit and the rapid growth momentum will continue.

The increase of German export has created many job opportunities for German workers, and this is very important, Schroeder told the German and Chinese businessmen who attended the seminar.

The German Chancellor said that China has made positive influence worldwide after it entered in the World Trade Organization (WTO) three years ago, playing an active role in the multilateral trade system.

China is a very respectable member of the WTO. Moreover, it is also a powerful and active player, for which the EU is looking to jointly promote the establishment of a new world trade system, Schroeder said.

Schroeder also said that China is now facing a big challenge of revitalizing Chinese industries in its northeast region. Germany has abundant experience for the structural readjustment of the traditional industrial basis.

"Germany is willing to share those experience with China and help it fulfill the mission of revitalizing the basis," Schroeder pledged.

Many German cities have forged friendly ties with Chinese cities and provinces, which is the evidence of Germany's commitment to boost the bilateral exchanges in cultural, science and technology arena, Schroeder added.

Schroeder stressed that it is to the consensus between Germany and China that the world security and peace could only be safeguarded in an effective multilateral system, and Germany appreciates China's efforts to host the six-party talks to solve the Korean nuclear issue.

In campaigns against the international terrorism, China and Germany should play a bigger role of coordinating efforts made by various countries, the German Chancellor said. He called for all parties concerned to eliminate powers and organizations that promote terrorism.
