China ranks No.1 in newly added installed capacity
font size

China's newly added electricity installed capacity has reached 51 million kilowatts, ranking No. 1 in the world. The total installed capacity has amounted to 447 million kilowatts, an increase of 11.5 percent as against last year.

To tackle the contradiction between demand and supply in transportation of coal, oil and electricity, China has actively pushed construction of key power projects. The construction of the Shaanxi-Beijing natural gas pipeline, the state oil reserve base, security upgrade of coalmines, large coal base and "send electricity to rural areas" have been quickened. It is predicted that China's coal throughput will increase by 120 million tons in 2004.

China continues to invest in construction of transportation infrastructures. The mid and long term plan for railway network has gone into operation. A total of 1,422 kms of railway has been built in 2004. Construction of the artery of national highway and key sections in west China have begun. About 40, 000 kms of new highways have opened to traffic. Of them, 3, 500 kms are expressways. 100, 000 kms of highway has been built in rural areas. The construction of specialized docks and deep water sea-route at the coastal regions have quickened as well. The cargo capacity is expected to rise by 120 million tons. Airport expansion projects have been completed in Guangzhou, Jinan and Qingdao.
