GDP to grow 9% or slightly more this yearChina's GDP would grow by 9 percent or slightly more this year, said Ma Kai, Minister of the National Development and Reform Commission. Ma Kai said at the Working Meeting of National Development and Reform that since beginning of this year the Central Committee of the CPC and the State Council have made the scientific decision to further strengthen and improve macro-control and distinct success have been achieved in macro-control. On the one hand prominent contradictions in the economic life have been alleviated and unstable and unsound factors have been checked. On the other hand the national economy keeps the good trend of growing at a relatively high speed with good performance and strong vitality. Estimates for this year are that national financial revenue would reach 2.6 trillion yuan increasing by about 20 percent and industries of scale realize profits of 1 trillion yuan; total retail sales would be 5.4 trillion yuan increasing by 13 percent and domestic consumer prices increase by about 4 percent; total volume of foreign trade would exceed $1.1 trillion increasing by 34 percent and foreign direct investment (FDI) in actual use would top $60 billion; urban newly-added employment would be more than 9 million and registered unemployment rate 4.4 percent; average per capita disposable income of urban residents and average net income of farmers in actual term would increase by more than 7 percent and 6 percent respectively. Ma Kai said that for a year the national development and reform department has actively and conscientiously carry out the macro-control decided by the central government, with the support and cooperation of relevant departments of the State Council and local governments, industrial associations and large enterprises and according to the central government's unified arrangement and requirements; has dealt with each case on its merits with some being protected and some being checked and has pressed ahead with the economic restructuring in the process of macro-control; has made timely adjustments and promoted coordination with emphasis put on alleviating prominent contradictions in the economic operation; has deepened the reform and expanded the opening up adding impetus and vitality to economic and social development; has put people first and made overall plans and taken all factors into consideration so as to energetically promote the comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development of economy and society; has had our feet firmly based at the present and kept in view the long-term plan and strengthened the work on drawing up long and medium-term special plans.
