China's 3G mobile telecom advances to west Europe

The Dutch mobile telecommunication operator Telfort signed a WCDMAG project contract with China's Huawei Technologies in Hague on Dec 8th. This is a breakthrough that China's WCDMA equipment have made in Europe, the origin of GSM and WCDMA. The contract is also a return for Huawei Technologies' investments in 3G for years. The contract compromises core network of WCDMA, base station system and related project and services for a network covering the whole Netherlands.

This is the fifth commercial WCDMA network that Huawei has constructed globally. The other four are in the UAE, Hong Kong, Mauritius and Malaysia. The WCDMA project for the Netherlands is Huawei's first contract in Europe.
