Palestinian elections committee accuses Israel of interference

The Palestinian elections committee said Saturday that Israel's arresting of a Palestinian presidential candidate is unconcealed interference.

Jamal al-Shoubaki, chief of the committee, told reporters "this is a clear breaking to what Israel promised the international society."

The Israeli army arrested on Friday night Bassam al-Salhi, the candidate of the People's Party for the Jan. 9 election, at al-Ram roadblock in the West Bank after being refused access to Jerusalem.

He was released several hours later after a bail was paid.

On the same day, four candidates for Palestinian municipal elections in al-Dahereya town near the West Bank city of Hebron.
