The Web Care Campaign 2005 organized by the Internet Professionals Association (iProA) was launched in Hong Kong on December 11.

As introduced, targets of this year's campaign are to organize internet training classes for 3,000 individuals, and to recruit more organizations to participate in the Web Care Award so as to raise the number of web sites eligible for the award to 200.

The campaign also aims to enlist 33 high schools in School Web Care so that more parents can learn how to access the Internet.

School Web Care is also in the hope of enhancing communication between members at the same time.

"Hong Kong is transitioning towards knowledge based economy.

The ability to access the internet and the multi-facet information and services it brings by Hong Kong citizens, from different background or with different needs, will be instrumental to the sustainability of Hong Kong's economic development," said President of iProA Elizabeth Quat.

Since it was first launched in 2001, the campaign has organized 680 unified internet training classes for over 8,000 elderly, women and physically impaired. The campaign also encourages both public service organizations and private business corporations in the building of no-barrier web sites by setting up Web Care Award.
