Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa said Sunday more efforts should be made to back the dialogue between the Arab world and the West to promote understanding among different civilizations, the official MENA newsagency reported.
Addressing the inaugural session of a three-day Arab-Europe an dialogue conference held here, Moussa said the conference should come up with practical recommendations for mapping out the road fora dialogue among civilizations.
He said the image of Islam in the West was "tarnished". He warned if the problem was left without remedy, it would develop into a worse problem.
Moussa hoped the conference would come up with recommendations as regards to the way Islam is depicted in Western school curricula.
Egyptian Minister of Higher Education Amr Salama, also presentat the meeting, called for using modern means, including the Internet and CDs, to spread "right" concepts in school curricula.The Egyptian minister said new programs are needed to promote understanding among different civilizations and efforts should be made to enhance the so-called cultural tourism.
