Former World Cup soccer winner Cucciuffo killed

Defender Jose Luis Cucciuffo of Argentina, former World Cup soccer winning member, was killed in a shooting accident in hunting Saturday night.

Cucciuffo received a fatal wound to the abdomen when a gun wentoff within the vehicle in which he was travelling with a friend near Bahia Blanco.

The 43-year-old died while being transferred to hospital.

Cucciuffo was part of Argentina's 1986 World Cup winning team in Mexico. He has 21 caps between 1985 and 1989, and played six of Argentina's seven matches on its way to the World Cup title.

A native of Cordoba, he played for Argentine sides Velez Sarsfield (1982-1987) and Boca Juniors (1987-1990).

His only overseas activity was with French side Nimes from 1990to 1993, before returning home to Belgrano.
