Mahmoud Abbas, chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization(PLO), Monday described his meeting with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-JaberAl-Sabah as "extremely satisfactory", the Kuwait News Agency reported.
"The most important achievement of this visit is that it actually happened and put an end to a situation that worried us all and we are now glad over our talks and meetings," Abbas said on his departure.
Abbas again apologized for PLO's position on the 1990 Iraqi aggression against Kuwait.
He made the apology upon arrival on Sunday on a landmark visit to Kuwait, the first one by a Palestinian leader since ties were frozen 14 years ago over the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's backing of the Iraqi invasion against the tiny neighbor.
On the issue of Kuwaiti support to the PLO, Abbas said "were quested continued financial and political support and Sheikh Sabah wholeheartedly replied that shall be soon enough.
Asked whether the issue of opening a Palestinian embassy in Kuwait was discussed, Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei said "all issues concerning relations, including diplomatic representation, came up."
Meanwhile, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah said that Kuwait hopes all Palestinians, including those living in Jerusalem, could take part in the coming elections.
He reiterated Kuwait would continue to support the Palestinian people so that "they could establish an independent and sovereignstate with holy Jerusalem as its capital," the Kuwait News Agency reported.
He indicated that the prospect of opening a Palestinian embassy in Kuwait would be discussed after the Palestinian elections.
Sheikh Mohammed described Abbas' visit to Kuwait as "positive" and "start of a new chapter" in the relations between Kuwait and the Palestinian leadership.
The PLO delegation led by Abbas will head for Saudi Arabia to continue the Gulf tour.
