National economic and technological development zones, which have embodied China's rapid economic development in the past two decades, should move on with restructuring and achieving economic growth for further development, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said in Beijing.
In his recent instruction on marking the 20th anniversary of the initiative in establishing national economic and technological development zones, Wen said that these zones, a showcase and powerhouse of China's reform and open-up drive, "should move ahead in a scientific way by focusing more on restructuring, technological innovation and making better use of land instead of merely seeking
to increase the number or scale." Addressing a work meeting here Tuesday, Chinese Vice Premier WuYi also praised the zones' role in developing industrial projects, attracting foreign investment, pushing up export and developing hi-tech industries, saying that after twenty years of development, the zones have obtained irreplaceable
advantages in investment environment, management mechanism and brining in professionals and industries.
She urged the zones to strive to become multi-function industrial zones through "four transformations" -- transformation from developing modern manufacturing to covering international service outsourcing, from focusing on scale economy to quality economy and technology introduction to innovation as well as from relying on policy environment to base themselves on advantages of structure and overall environment.
