The kidnapped Turkish engineer was found dead in Kunar province in east Afghanistan on Wednesday, one day after he was abducted by unknown gunmen, the Afghan Interior Ministry said.

"Reports received from Kunar confirmed the body of the Turkish engineer was found in Noor Gul district, Spin Jamaat area of Kunar province around 9:00 a.m. this morning," said Junbish, head of theanti-terrorism department in the Interior Ministry.

The Turkish company the engineer worked for said they had not received any confirmation on his death.

The abducted engineer working on the Jalalabad-Kunar road project was kidnapped along with his driver and interpreter Tuesday afternoon in Chawki district, but the latter was released after a few hours.

It was the second kidnapping case in less than two months afterthe abduction of three UN employees who were held hostage in late October, but they were eventually set free in November.
