ASEAN countries to cooperate in combating corruptionFour member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN) agreed to cooperate in combating corruption. They include Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam, an Indonesian daily Media Indonesia said in Jakarta Thursday. They would cooperate in capacity building, exchanging information and method of eradicating corruption. "The anti-corruption commissions from the four countries agree to help each other," chairman of Indonesian Eradicating Corruption Commission said. The chairman said that each country would return escaping corrupt people and assets to their country of origin. Singapore's anti-corruption commission chairman Chua Cer Yak said that his country is in the position of discussing the extradition of those corrupt Indonesians staying now in his country. Meanwhile, Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla asked for assistance of the other three countries to arrest the corrupt Indonesians who escaped there. Source: Xinhua |
