Hamas accuses Sharon's statement of faking peace
font size

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Thursday condemned Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's statement on a final solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, accusing it of faking peace.

Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas spokesman in Gaza, told Xinhua that Sharon's statement reflected the real image of a fake peace Israel wanted and it was based on the principle of neglecting the rights of the Palestinian people.

Sharon said in his speech at an academic conference in the northern Israeli city of Herzelia that he rejects Israel's withdrawal back to the 1967 borders, refuses to have east Jerusalemas the capital of a future Palestinian state and rejects the right of return for Palestinian refugees.

Abu Zuhri blasted the United States for supporting Sharon who said his vision had been agreed and coordinated with the United States.

"Sharon's statement reflects a US conspiracy with the Zionist enemy, which is tantamount to launching a propaganda war against the Palestinian people," said Abu Zuhri.

"The reaction to the statement would only be continuing Palestinian armed resistance," said Abu Zuhri.

Meanwhile, Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat also slammedSharon's statement, saying Sharon imposed his solution on Palestinian people.
