font size

The Chinese government donated office equipment worth three million Kenyan shillings (about 37,000 US dollars) to the Somali transitional government on Thursday.

Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Chongli and Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed signed the certificate of receipt for the donation on Thursday in Kenyan capital Nairobi, where the Somali transitional government is currently based.

"The donation demonstrates China's support to the Somali transitional government. We hope the new government will bring peace and stability to the Somali people, and we will try our best to assist our brothers and sisters in Somalia," Guo said at the signing ceremony.

The ambassador said another batch of office equipment to be donated to Somalia, including computers, is coming soon from China, adding that he hopes the donation will further enhance the existing Sino-Somali relationship.

Yusuf thanked China for the assistance, saying they "had a very good cooperation with China, and we hope to continue that friendship."
