font size

The second pipeline from northwest China's Shaanxi Province to Beijing has been completed and will soon pump natural gas to the Chinese capital, said a source with the Ministry of Construction said Thursday.

The pipeline, beginning in the city of Yulin, is 851 kilometers in long and able to pump 30 million cubic meters of gas a day to Beijing, the ministry said.

According to Beijing's development and reform commission, the current daily gas supply capacity of Beijing is 19 million cubic meters, which cannot meet the demand of 23 million to 24 million cubic meters a day this winter.

The project was funded by China National Petroleum Cooperation and Beijing municipal government. It will also contribute to the realization of Beijing 2008's "Green Olympics."
