French cultural extravaganza lights up Macao's eveningA French cultural extravaganza featured by a pyro-musical epic choreographed by fireworks and lights lit up the evening sky of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on December 17. The spectacular display designed for the Macao Tower under the theme "Romance and Innovation" was the climax of all programs within the "Year of France in China" campaign, which came to Macao on Dec. 10. Through the uniquely composed symphonic music, exhilarating electric guitars, towering flames and sensational pyrotechnics, magnificent images were painted across the night sky to create romantic sceneries. The display named "so that the stars dance" employed a large amount of creative technologies and machineries including 80 pyrotechnic set-off points, 42 flame generators and 10 powerful sky-tracers with changing colors. A team of two dozens Group F artists including pyrotechnic experts, musicians, choreographers, light designers and audio engineers converged music, light and fire into the magical unity. The team has been featured in numerous international occasions including the 2004 Athens Olympics, the 1998 Football World Cup in France and the Year 2000 Millennium celebration at Eiffel Tower Paris. Macao has been overwhelmed in a festive air in celebration of the fifth anniversary of the founding of the SAR, which will fall on Dec. 20. The musical fire display was followed by an evening gala, which featured renowned Chinese artists from the mainland, Macao and Taiwan. The French cultural campaign will continue to Jan. 2 next year in Macao. Macao's Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah and Gao Zhanxiang, president of the Society for the Promotion of Chinese Culture, enjoyed the display along with an audience of thousands of people.
