Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has termed as "inadmissible" any attempt to revive cold war mentality in the approach to the situation in Ukraine, the Itar-Tass news agency reported Sunday.
Speaking on the TV program "Postscriptum" on Saturday evening, the Russian minister noted that Ukraine lives "both next to the West and the East."
"If anybody gets an idea of building a new wall between the southeastern border of Ukraine and what is situated on the other side, to the East ...these will be so blatant relapses of Cold warthinking which will be revolted by both the majority of European states and even by the United States," he said.
"There were words from Europe that Ukraine should be with the West ...This is a provocation, instigation and an attempt to buildagain delimitation lines," Lavrov said.
The minister said that the approach, formulated at the recent meeting of the Russian-NATO Council, "means that Ukrainians shouldsettle their problems on their own on the basis of their Constitution and laws, without attempts to resort to force and without attempts at instigation, pressure and intimidation."
He said Russia hopes that its neighbors in the post-Soviet space will respect Russia's "legitimate interests" and take them into account.
Russia does not have a monopoly on this space and neither does anybody else, he underlined.
