Three Gorges Project records safety
font size

A digital system to monitor earthquakes has been set up on China's biggest reservoir, the Three Gorges Project.

The Three Gorges Reservoir on the Yangtze River has been a great success since it began storing water a year ago.

Soil erosion in the area around the reservoir has decreased by 20 per cent, and the water quality of the Yangtze River remains good.

The China Three Gorges Project Corporation says the safety record in the reservoir is good.

The project was first launched in 1994 as a means of opening water routes and generating power.
