Poland will take the relations with China and other developing countries as priorities in its foreign relations strategy, a senior official said Monday.

Deputy Foreign Minister Boguslaw Zaleski told a news briefing that the Polish authorities endorsed the strategy with focus on developing nations on Nov. 30.

Poland has given weight to its bidding for the membership of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the European Union in the past 15 years. It is time for the country to shift more attention to Asia, Africa and Latin America, Zaleski said.

The official noted that China is Poland's largest trading partner in Asia. The Sino-Polish trade deficit will possibly be brought down as Chinese market opens up as required by the World Trade Organization.

Besides China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, South Africa, Brazil and Mexico are all on the priority list. Polish enterprises will be encouraged to promote trade with the developing countries, Zaleski said.
