Pentagon says at least 22 killed in Mosul
font size

Pentagon officials said at least 22 people were killed and 50 wounded in a blast Tuesday at a joint US-Iraqi military base in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

It was immediately known whether the casualties were US or Iraqi personnel, the CNN quoted the officials as saying. They said the dining hall at the base was struck by rockets and mortars.

The attack occurred at 12 p.m. local time (0900 GMT), the US military said in an earlier statement. It came after car bombs killed 67 people in the Shiite holy cites of Najaf and Karbala on Sunday.
