Farmers' income rises markedly in NE. China province

A record 20-percent growth in farmers' income is in anticipation for this year in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, one of the nation's grain production bases, as it has reaped a good harvest.

The provincial agricultural authorities said the per-capita pure income of farmers would top 3,000 yuan (361 dollars) this year, up 20 percent year-on-year.

Thanks to a series of incentives from the central and provincial governments, farmers were more enthusiastic about farming this year.

According to the agricultural authorities, 8 million hectares of farmland was sown to cereals in Heilongjiang this year, up 4.5 percent over last year. And the annual grain output is estimated at an all-time high of 31.4 billion kilograms, a year-on-year increment of 6.3 billion kg or 25 percent.
