British Prime Minister Tony Blair said here Wednesday that the international peace conference scheduled in February 2005 in London would help revive the stalled roadmap peace plan.
Blair made the remarks in a news conference following talks with Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) chairman Mahmoud Abbas, better known as Abu Mazen.
He said the aim of his visit to the region is to get anacceptance for holding the London conference and to hear clear commitments to the roadmap peace plan.
"We had got this commitment from Abu Mazen as well as from the Israeli side, and we should not miss this opportunity in order toachieve progress in the peace process," said Blair.
For his part, Abbas said the international conference Britain intends to organize next year "is the first step towards our joint procession to arrange the basics for peace."
"We believe that this conference represents an importantopportunity to support the efforts of the Palestinian Authority towards reform, security, economical prosperity and implementing the roadmap plan," said Abbas.
Meanwhile, Abbas called on Israel to stop its military operations against the Palestinian people.
"Israel should stop all constructions of the security wall inthe West Bank, stop settlements expansion and release prisoners,"he said.
Abbas added that on Thursday the procession of the Palestinian democracy would begin as the municipal elections would be held.
"It would be followed by presidential and legislative elections next year," he continued.
