State councilor Tang meets ROK guest

Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met with Chung Dong-young, presidential special envoy and permanent chairman of the National Security Council of the Republic of Korea (ROK) in Beijing on December 22.

The host and guest conferred on issues of common concern including the China-ROK relations. Chung Dong-young is on a three-day visit to China at the invitation of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of "all-round China-ROK partnership of cooperation," said Tang.

"Thanks to the mutual understanding, mutual support and aid, the two countries have witnessed rapid development of exchanges and cooperation in politics, economy, culture and science and technology since the establishment of diplomatic relations 12 years ago," he said.

The two countries have similar historical experience and are facing the same task of developing economy and raising people's living standards, which is conducive to the deepening of Sino-ROK mutual-benefit cooperation and promotion of regional cooperation process, Tang said.

Tang expressed hope that the two countries will continue to enhance coordination, devote themselves to the peace and stabilityin the Korean Peninsula and jointly press for regional cooperation in northeast Asia.

The ROK government and people are satisfied with the 12-year development of ROK-China relations, feeling confident about the future development of relations, said Chung Dong-young.

He expressed hope that the two countries will enhance exchanges and coordination to jointly push forward the six-party talks process for solution of Korean Peninsula nuclear issues and safeguard the peace and stability in the Korean Peninsula and the northeast Asia region.
