HK's export up 13.5 percent in Oct.

The volume of Hong Kong's total exports of goods rose 13.5 percent in October over last year's same period.

Releasing the volume and price statistics of external merchandise trade for October, the Census & Statistics Department said Thursday that the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports of goods in October rose 13.8 percent compared with the same month last year and that of domestic exports by 10.1 percent.

The department said, at the same time, the volume of goods imports rose 8.7 percent.

When comparing the first nine months of 2004 and 2003, the volume of Hong Kong's re-exports grew 16.9 percent, and that of domestic exports 2.5 percent. Taken together, the volume of total exports grew 15.8 percent.

At the same time, imports rose 15.6 percent in volume.

According to the department, comparing October with the same month last year, the price of re-exports of goods rose 2.6 percent, and those of domestic exports grew 3.9 percent. Taken together, the price of total exports of goods rose 2.7 percent.

The price of imports also rose 4.6 percent in the same period.
