Palestinian chief of preventive security Rashid Abu Shbak said Thursday that the Palestinian militant groups will not be allowed to carry arms after the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
Abu Shbak said in an interview with the Saudi Arabian al Arabeya satellite television that militants should drop their guns after the Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and after the Palestinian National Authority takes control of Gaza.
"There will be only one gun, the gun of the Palestinian security forces that will be used to bring security and safety to the Palestinians and will be used in imposing discipline and law."
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon had presented a plan called the unilateral plan of disengagement with the Palestinians, under which he intends to dismantle Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip and pull out his troops from there.
Sharon said that the plan would be implemented in the summer of2005 and he will work through a coalition government with the Labor party in approving the disengagement plan with the Palestinians.
